High Quality Zeolite - high quality, natural zeolite suitable for the chemical filtration section of aquarium filters.
Zeolites are used for many technical purposes, especially because their ability to absorb and release ions can be useful. Basically, they act as molecular sieves that can separate unwanted substances such as oil pollution, limestone, ochre and nitrates from the water.
This is exactly the last nitrate removal ability that we aquarists can use! The majority of subtropical soft water fish live completely free of nitrates. It is well known that nitrates affect humans and that is why our drinking water has a maximum permissible limit of 50 mg per liter. However, there are many aquarium fish that do not tolerate such high nitrate concentrations.
If you add zeolite to your filtration (chemical filtration), the nitrates will be absorbed by the zeolite. Once the zeolite is saturated, it can be regenerated with table salt in a bucket of water. Let the zeolite stand in 10 liters of water, adding approximately 1 kg of salt, for 1 day and preferably with an air flow to create movement in the water. The zeolite is then rinsed and is ready for use again.
If you use zeolite in your filter, it is very important to remember NOT to perform a salt treatment, as the bound nitrate will be released immediately and you risk your fish dying.
